Almost every time I plan a record release I budget in making a music video or two. It always seems somewhat excessive and I always hope they will go viral and they never really go viral. ha! but I love making them. I thought it would be fun to do a review of some of the music videos I’ve made over the years. here we go.
In the Shadows (Again) (2018) - Directed by Andrew Goodwin
We filmed this one in the main room at San Antonio venue Paper Tiger. Nasa Country was a very young band at this point in time. We look fun. The green screen segments feature fun analog visuals by Justin Boyd and a silhouette of Brady Dietert dancing with his coworker.
Baby Please (2018) - Created by Zach Dorn
This is a very special animated video. I met Zach Dorn at an arts festival in SA where he was performing a puppet show. I then found out he was an animation student and I asked if we could collaborate on a video. I love it. now he is a successful animator somewhere.
All Right, All Night (2019) - Directed by Walley Films
This is the big cinematic achievement of my musical career so far. Art-house documentarians Walley Films constructed a really dreamy story line and went all the way with this one. it is so epic and so cool. I have always felt like this video has been an under the radar smash success.
I Like Austin, but I Love SA (2021) - Directed by Frank Weysos
Frank Weysos brought his iphone to the Lonesome Rose and James Steinle put on the puffy taco costume (that I get from a mysterious source) and we drank beer and riffed on ideas for a few hours. I must say, this video is so damn fun and goofy and it came together so easily.
People Are Beautiful (2022) - Directed by Jordan Moser
I decided last minute to make a video for the People Are Beautiful title track and Jordan Moser brought the directorial heat. The band setup shop in the epic SA furniture store, Period Modern, and we just goofed off for a while. The result is some sort of punked out Beastie Boys / Bruce Springsteen furniture warehouse blowout.
Flow State (2024) - Directed by Jordan Moser
Jordan Moser strikes again. This time in front of a massive green screen provided by the city of San Antonio. I’m so happy with the heavily psychedelic vibe of this video. We simply spent a few hours miming along to the song in different threads and then Jordan went to town on post production. never a dull moment in this one!
So are music videos worth it?
For an independent artist like myself - probably not! but there are ways to do it on the cheap AND it is cool to revel in what has been created. Who gives a shit if they go viral my foos!
There are some solo and NASA Country shows coming up soon. and more on the way. come hang!
